Imitate, Don't Idolize

Imitate, Don't Idolize

Oct 06, 2019

Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:1-21

Preacher: Allen Duty

Series: Messy Church: 1st Corinthians

Category: Sunday Morning

Keywords: idolatry, messy church: 1st corinthians

Imitation is seen as the sincerest form of flattery, and it's also seen as annoying in some contexts. But imitation is one of the ways we learn anything in life - from sports to art to music to learning to speak. The problem in Corinth was that the believers were idolizing spiritual leaders like Paul, Apollos, and Cephas, and dividing over them. In this passage, he helps them to understand that God gives spiritual leaders to imitate, not idolize.
