Sin: More Trouble Than It's Worth

Sin: More Trouble Than It's Worth

Passage: Joshua 7:1-26

Preacher: Allen Duty

Series: Courageous Faith: The Book of Joshua

Category: Sunday Morning

Sunday's sermon covers Joshua 7:1-26 in a message I've called, "Sin: More Trouble than It's Worth." In the text, Joshua sends out spies to scout out Ai, who recommend sending a small detachment of soldiers to take the city with no sweat. What Joshua doesn't know is that there is sin in the camp, which means God is not with Israel, but against them. They are routed, and are left to figure out what went wrong. God reveals that Achan is the sinner, and he and his family have to be put to death in the Valley of Achor - "The Valley of Trouble" - for the trouble they caused to Israel. We'll be reminded that sin is more trouble than it's worth, but it's best summed up in the lyrics from Jordan Kauflin's song, "All I Have is Christ:" the sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave.
