Hurricane Harvey is the most devastating hurricane to hit Texas in half a century. South Houston received nearly 50 inches of rain in a 4-day period, equivalent to the average annual rainfall experienced in much of the city.

At least 30,000 people have been made homeless, and tens of thousands are without power. 50% of this year's cotton harvest in the region is lost. Insurance costs are projected to be over 10 billion dollars, with direct losses totaling more than 20 billion.

Harvey Relief Efforts

New Life is a part of the Acts 29 Network, a diverse, global family of church-planting churches. We have over 20 Acts 29 churches in the greater Houston area, of which we are a part. Several pastors in our Network have lost homes, cars, and possessions. All of them have dozens, even hundreds, of church members who lost as much or more than they did.

No individual and no church can do everything in a situation that is as massively devastating as this one. But every individual and every church can play a part in the recovery. This will be a very long recovery process - a marathon, not a sprint.

Therefore, let us reflect on Paul's words to the Galatians: "And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:9-10)

Here is how you can get involved in the relief, recovery, and redevelopment of Houston:

Pray

Pray for the ongoing flooding along the Texas Coast and Houston metropolitan area - that the rains would stop and people would have access in and out of their living areas.

Pray for safety and efforts of the first responders, National Guard, and rescue workers who are attempting to bring aid.

Pray for relief organizations and local churches as they seek to meet needs, specifically for those within the Acts 29 Network:

  • Christ Community Church of Magnolia
  • Church Project
  • Redeemer Church of Tomball
  • Bridge Point Community Church
  • Providence Community Church
  • CrossWay Community Church
  • Higher Expectations Church
  • Christ Church Kingwood
  • Christ Community Church of Houston
  • Sojourn (Heights)
  • Sojourn (Montrose)
  • Seven Mile Road
  • Kerusso Grace Church
  • Crossings Community Church
  • The Grove Church
  • Crossbridge Church
  • Acts Community Church
  • Covenant Community Church
  • Clear Creek Community Church (5 Campuses)

Pray that God would use these difficult times to bring many to a saving faith in Jesus.

Give

While there are many excellent organizations that will be working to provide relief, rehabilitation, and redevelopment over the next few years, New Life has chosen to partner with our fellow Acts 29 churches. The Acts 29 Network has already given $50,000 towards this effort, and we hope that you will consider donating as well.

Your gift will go towards relief efforts in Houston and the greater Houston area. Here are four ways you can give:

By Check: mail your check to New Life. Make sure to note "Harvey Relief" on the memo line.

Online: click here to give online. Choose "Harvey Relief" when asked to designate your gift.

By Text: the dollar amount and "Harvey Relief" to 979-200-4363.
